Carole and Ralph Foshee hardly ever see the upstairs of their two-story home on the Trace.

Their previous home in Dora had three levels and all of the bedrooms were located upstairs. When the Foshees moved to Jasper four years ago, they wanted one important change.

“We wanted everything on one level,” Carole Foshee said.

The Foshees modeled the floor plan for the home after a showcase house they visited in Huntsville.

Their new home has two bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, kitchen, dining room, pantry, family room and sitting area downstairs.

The upstairs — which includes two more bedrooms, a bathroom and a den — is used primarily when their five grandchildren are visiting.

“It’s all used when the grandchildren are here,” Carole Foshee said.

The house also includes a full basement that could be used for future expansion.

Ralph Foshee said he designed the basement to be as open as possible.

“I put these structured beams down there and just a very few columns so we could build anything there that we wanted to,” he said.

The kitchen is outfitted with stainless steel appliances, a dual fuel stove and Carole Foshee’s collection of Blue Willow china.

One unique feature of the home is the downstairs spare bedroom and its adjoining bathroom, which were built to be handicapped accessible.

“We wanted to be able to take care of ourselves in our old age,” Ralph Foshee said.

The Foshees also installed more than 100 recessed lights throughout the home.

“That’s one thing that we really went to a lot of trouble to do,” Carole Foshee said.

The Tour of Homes will be Sunday, Dec. 6, from 1 until 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets are available at Walker County Home Builders Association, Jasper Decorating Center on 19th Avenue or from any Pilot Club member.

Proceeds from the tour will go toward the construction of a Miracle Field. The new baseball field will serve all citizens, particularly children with disabilities and senior citizens.
