Bankhead Middle School hosted its second annual Living Wax Museum on Friday. The 8th grade class brought 69 historical figures to life in the school gymnasium. Students, parents and the general public paid to hear the students give a short presentation about their character. Materials for the presentations were purchased with a $500 Alabama Bicentennial Schools grant that the school received. The proceeds will be donated to an effort to purchase Christmas toys for Cordova children.

Children were celebrating the first day of summer Friday morning by cooling off at the Parrish Splash Pad. The splash pad is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids admission is $3, and adult admission is $1. Children can enjoy the splash pad for free each Wednesday. The splash pad is located on Park Dunn Road.

Walker County Sheriff Jim Underwood filed a second civil suit against the Walker County Commission on Friday over budget cuts enacted in October. The complaint asks the court to require commissioners to fund the $5.2 million budget request made by Underwood for the current fiscal year or to appear in court showing cause why they cannot do so. more
