The Cordova Senior Center hosted a fall festival for residents 60 and older on Friday. Seniors trick-or-treated with vendors from Capstone Clinic, Cordova Healthcare and Rehabilitation, Comfort Care Hospice, Alabama Hospice, Kindred Hospice and Home Healthcare and Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging. Edgar the Skeleton, the senior center's Halloween version of Elf on the Shelf, also entertained guests. The senior center will also be open for trick-or-treaters on Halloween from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

T.R. Simmons Elementary School held a Thanksgiving play Thursday. First grade students told the story of Thanksgiving through song and dance, and some played music — all while dressed as Pilgrims and Native Americans. Mission of Hope in Dora held one of their largest food distributions of the year Thursday to benefit an estimated 300 families. Those in need were sent home with items to prepare a Thanksgiving meal, along with a $12 certificate to purchase additional food at Piggly Wiggly. Guests also received regular pantry items that are distributed bi-weekly. Corner High and Dora High students were in attendance to help distribute the items. A number of other nonprofit organizations were on hand to educate the public about their services. Mission of Hope is a nonprofit organization that operates a food bank and clothes closet.
