Synovus donates litter bags to 7,000 county students

Senior vice president Lisa Killingsworth, left, and market president Shawn Morgan, middle, both of Synovus Bank in in Jasper, announced at Monday's Walker County Commission meeting that Synovus will provide 7,000 car litter bags to all of the county school students in Grades K-6. The bags are use to urge children and their parents not to litter and to promote the April 27 Cleanup Day across the county. Jerry Bishop, chairman of the commission, thanked Synovus "for being a good neighbor and being part of our clean up." Joining the Synovus officials is a county official who has spearheaded local cleanup efforts, Janet Adams-Clayton, the human resources coordinator and a payroll official with the commission office.

The Walmart Supercenter in Jasper on Friday held a grand re-opening and ribbon cutting after its 12-week remodeling project, which features expanded departments and a new grocery pickup service. Long-time employee Teresa Eads, who also sang the National Anthem, was allowed to cut the ribbon. District Manager Brandon Garth presented a plaque to store manager Chris Rhodes as the store was the Region 14 Store of the Year for 2019. Rhodes thanked customers for their patience, noting, “This remodel has been very successful.” Jasper Mayor David O’Mary reminded the crowd that the local Walmart was the first to open in Alabama in 1979. “You have made a tremendous impact on Jasper, Alabama,” he said. more
