The Jasper Foothills Show Choir Classic kicks off today at Jasper High School to highlight show choir groups from Alabama and surrounding states. Encore, Jasper High's male and female choir, is scheduled to compete at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, while the high school's female-only show choir group, Diamonds, will perform at the end of Friday night's competition. Friday's competition will be from approximately 5 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday's competition will begin bright and early at 8 a.m. and last until at least 10:45 p.m., with groups competing throughout the day. A ticket good to see both days of competition is $15.

Carbon Hill Elementary School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week with dress-up days. Tuesday's theme was "Yee-Haw, Give Drugs the Boot," and students wore hillbilly-themed attire.
