The Walker County Humane Society recently purchased a dog kennel, bite gloves and a catch pole for the Walker County Sheriff's Office. The dog box will stay in WCSO Deputy Carl Carpenter's truck and can transport two dogs. Today marks the grand opening of Milo’s in Jasper, with doors opening for breakfast at 6 a.m. For the first 90 days, breakfast at the Jasper location will be half price and the first 100 dine-in customers today will receive a free Milo’s hat. Members of the Milo’s Hamburgers staff prepared early Monday afternoon for a pre-opening event held later that day for members of the public to come through and “test run” the new fast food restaurant. Around $2,000 worth of free food was given out during this soft opening. more

CARBON HILL — The Carbon Hill City Council on Thursday renewed a contract with the Carbon Hill Utility Board, although it came with an increase in fees to the city.
