Sumiton Christian’s Kendall Beth Sides was named the 2017 Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year Monday. The outfielder/shortstop helped lead the Eagles to their third consecutive state title last month. CORDOVA — The Cordova City Council is considering a new ordinance to address the increasing number of stray dogs in the city. A draft presented at Tuesday night’s council meeting is more expansive than the dog ordinance adopted in 2010, city attorney Ben Goldman told council members. The ordinance also clarifies the procedure for getting strays off the street. more
A residence on Indiana Avenue in Jasper was heavily damaged by fire on Wednesday. Jasper Fire Rescue, Jasper Police Department and Regional Paramedical Services responded to the structure fire around 11:15 a.m. Alan Clark, deputy fire chief and fire marshal for Jasper Fire Rescue, said the fire caused major damage to the home’s kitchen and attic. The home was reportedly being rented and only person was home at the time. No injuries were reported. more
