Parrish's Veterans Day program was held on Friday. Local kindergarten students led the Pledge of Allegiance and placed a rose in memory of each Parrish native who has died in war. Mayor Heather Hall distributed pictures that the students had colored for the veterans in attendance. Among those present for Friday's program were Roy Smith and Clifford Harland, both of whom served in World War II. The guest speaker was Col. Steve Olive (US Air Force Retired), a Parrish native. Olive noted that Nov. 11 will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I while Parrish's centennial is still four years away. "Before Parrish was Parrish, it was sending its young men off to war," Olive said.
