It’s probably a safe bet that not many people hereabouts are working to make protest signs this week, but Tim Bowen and some friends are an exception. Come Saturday, a rare event will take place in downtown Jasper: a political demonstration, in the form of an outdoor protest at the Walker County Courthouse. The happening got its start on social media, according to Bowen, one of the demonstration’s organizers, who’s also acting chairman of Walker County Democrats, which meets monthly at local restaurants. more
One of the most beloved and well-respected physicians to ever practice in Jasper was the guest speaker at Monday’s meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Jasper. Dr. Gene Birdsong, who practiced for more than 40 years in Jasper and Walker County, told Kiwanis members and other guests about how he became a physician, as well as how he ended up in Jasper in 1965. more
