Members of Boy Scout Troop 114 in Cordova held a special ceremony on Friday to retire several American flags that were old and tattered. The ceremony was held outdoors at the Walker County Shiners Club in Jasper in conjunction with the Jasper Elks Lodge. Several military veterans — some who served during World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf wars — participated in the ceremony. more

The Walker County Commission will hold its major annual spring cleanup day Saturday, with major projects set for Oakman, Cordova and Parrish, county officials said. “If anyone would like to participate in these areas please come to the meeting place at the appointed time. CARBON HILL - Carbon Hill Police Chief Paul Agnew is warning people to slow down and move over when they see an emergency vehicle approach, noting he has seen others hinder public safety vehicles at such times.
