Day's Gap Fest concludes on perfect fall day

The Day's Gap Fest concluded as a two-day festival in Oakman on Saturday with perfect fall temperatures and sunny skies. A number of visitors enjoyed food and children's activities, as well as vendors selling a number of items. Lions Club International volunteers gave eye tests at the Oakman Senior Center, while outside a car show impressed visitors.

Sportsmen's Health Expo draws good crowd

Walker Baptist Medical Center reported a good attendance was experienced at a Sportsmen's Health Expo in its lobby late Tuesday afternoon. Men who were attracted to the event with a hunting simulator and hunting giveaways were also tested for a number of different conditions and advised about follow-up activity they might need to take. Printed health information and food were also handed out, and one surgical robot was available for visitors to experience maneuvering themselves on man-made items.

Members of Cordova Fire and Rescue welcomed members of the community and gave tours of the firehouse on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The department had several temporary homes after the April 2011 tornadoes but has been in its current location for nearly two years.
