The Walker County Commission on Monday voted to designate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Breast Cancer Support Group of Walker County spoke to the commission at the meeting, and was later joined by the commission for a balloon release later that morning. An opening reception was held Tuesday for "The Magic of Music," the newest exhibit at the Bankhead House and Heritage Center. The exhibit traces the evolution of music through instruments and music-related items on loan from local residents. The exhibit runs through Dec. 28. Several live music performances will be held at the Bankhead House in October, November and December. Pam Fikes, program coordinator for the Walker Area Community Foundation, played the bagpipes at Tuesday's reception.
