Leslie Payton Burgess, a state inmate connected to cases in Walker And Etowah counties, was granted parole on Thursday by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole. 

The board held 38 parole hearings Thursday, granting one parole and denying 37. Of the 37 inmates denied parole Thursday, 28 have convictions for violent crimes.

Burgess was not convicted of violent crimes, the board indicated. She had been held in the Tutwiler Annex for 1 year and six months on a 96-month sentence. 

Burgess was admitted in February 2019 for second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and possession and receiving a Class D controlled substance, both in Walker County. She previously served time in Etowah County for possession of a controlled substance.
