Kids ‘N’ Us meets each Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. at Crossway Baptist Church of Aldridge.
The group was organized two months ago by Diane Murphey, wife of the church’s youth pastor, Scott Murphey, and her sister-in-law, Kala Henderson.
“It’s a place for moms and kids to go, and it’s an opportunity for moms to have some adult conversation, even if it is usually about the kids,” said Murphey, mother of 1-year-old Reice.
Henderson, a nurse and mother of two boys, said she found similar play groups in Birmingham but none close to home in Walker County.
“We were just getting tired of sitting at home and not having anything to do. It gets pretty lonely after a while,” Henderson said.
There is no cost to attend Kids ‘N’ Us.
The ministry is open to infants and preschoolers as well as their parents or guardians.
Most meetings are held in the Crossway nursery. The atmosphere is laidback, children of various ages playing while their mothers supervise and chat.
“It’s nice to talk to other moms who are going through the same things you are or have already been through them,” Henderson said.
Last month, Murphey organized a fall-themed craft for the kids and plans to do several more during the holiday season.
She also hopes to plan some field trips in the future to places such as the zoo if the group continues to grow.
