The first ever “Kid’s Day Downtown” will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will feature a number of special activities geared especially toward children.
“This event is free for the public to enjoy and will feature a storefront window painting contest that several local children will be competing in for prizes,” said Don Goetz, the retail recruiter for the city. “The theme for the window painting contest this year is “A Brighter Tomorrow” and the participants will be judged on originality, artistic ability, neatness and representation of the theme.”
Goetz said the theme was chosen in honor of all the hard work that has been done to help those affected by the April 27, 2011 tornados that swept through northwest Alabama.
“We will also have a number of activities for children, including inflatables, and several vendors will be on hand and serving kid-friendly food,” Goetz said.
Other activities that will be featured at this year’s event also include facepainting, kids rides, dancing and music.
“The Jasper Fire Department, Jasper Police Department and Regional Paramedical Services will also have a fire truck, police car and dog and ambulance on hand for kids to check out,” Goetz said. “So we hope everyone will bring their children and come out and enjoy the fun.”
