This weekend, watch the legendary battle between the Mouse King and the Nutcracker rage, before enjoying the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy on stage at Rowland Auditorium in Jasper. Athletic Arts Center in Jasper will be presenting the classic holiday show “The Nutcracker” on Saturday at 7 p.m. and in a matinee presentation on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The presentation features 47 performers, including adults and professional dancers who fill out the cast.

This is the fifth year for the production, said Maria Ross, owner of Athletic Arts Center.

“I can’t believe its been five years,” Ross said with a laugh.

She said the community support and dedication of her students are what makes the program a success every year, and each year they strive to improve it and offer a little more to the audience.

“We’ve got a following that makes this a part of their holiday tradition each year,” Ross said. “And we have some students who are growing up with the program. Some of them are determined to play every part.”

This year’s show is sponsored by Dr. Jeffery S. Cuomo, Southern Orthopedics; Dazzle Dance Boutique; Bull Building Supply; Dan and Teresa Giles; John and Sandi Fisher; Chris Hanvey Construction; Attorney Garve W. Ivey III; Joseph and Rhonda Taylor; Lanny and Christina Ross; Attorney Caroline Mobley Walker; Walker Community Theater; and Walker County Arts Alliance.
