Two new members of the Walker County Board of Education were sworn in Thursday.

The ceremony occurred during the new board’s first meeting at the Carl Elliott Building in Jasper.

The new members, Jamie Rigsby and Bill Edd Gilbert, were sworn in by Walker County Circuit Judge Hoyt Elliott.

Gilbert told the crowd, “I want to thank all of you for your vote and for your support.”

He also said he plans to be a representative for all of Walker County, not just District 3, which covers the Parrish, Oakman, Cordova and Valley communities.

Rigsby said he is also thankful for all of the support her received from the residents of District 1, which covers the Curry and Farmstead communities.

“I think we’ll do all right here,” he said referring to the new board.

In other business, the board:

•Elected member Sonia Waid as vice-chairman of the Walker County Board of Education.

•Passed a resolution honoring former District 3 board member Mike Raines, who lost the election to Gilbert.
