Thursday morning we received our first indication that something was very wrong from our alarm service. The store was closed and no one in the building, thankfully. Within seconds, the city police responded and as we received a sequence of more alarms the fire department was dispatched and on the scene. Bravely, and with total respect for our facility, the fire crews engaged the fire and put it out with the efficiency and precision of a Swiss watch. Except for the fact that our building was on fire, it was a joy to watch our police and fire crews as this drama unfolded. They are simply amazing and the only reason we still have a building.
I received calls from Mayor Sonny Posey, Connie Rowe, Trent McCluskey, Phillip Freeman, Jon Geddings, Sandi Sudduth, and many others expressing their sincere concern and offering unlimited assistance. I sincerely thank them all.
Our attention immediately turned to keeping our staff whole with regard to their incomes and has now turned to reconstructing our facility and restoring operations as fast as possible. I can only hope that we are nearly as efficient as the fire and police.
In closing I wish to acknowledge the fact that we have always felt the warm embrace of this community and have done our best to reflect that back in meaningful ways. The calls and well wishes continue to pour in along with the #1 question “When will you be open so I can get some Cheese Biscuits?”
Soon, very soon.
