Addison volleyball teams wins pair at Walker

Addison’s volleyball team keeps piling up the wins.

The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in Class 1A, earned a pair of wins at Walker’s Songer Gym Thursday night, beating McAdory and Walker in straight sets.

Addison’s losses this season have come against Hartselle (No. 1 in 5A) and Madison Academy (No. 3 in 3A). The Lady Bulldogs also avenged the loss against Hartselle in the Muscle Shoals Tournament recently.

On Thursday, the Lady Bulldogs opened with a 25-9, 25-10 victory over McAdory before defeating Walker 25-18, 27-25.

For Addison, Holly Posey contributed across the board with 20 assists, 12 digs, 10 kills and nine aces on the day. Jessy Taylor had nine blocks and seven kills, Chelsea Posey added 12 digs, six kills and six blocks, Kayla Robinson had eight kills, Jessica Robinson had seven aces, Stora Gilliland had 16 digs and Ragen Yarborough had nine digs and six assists.

Addison (17-2) will host Winston County and Danville in a tri-match Tuesday.

Walker split its matches, beating McAdory in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11 before losing to the Lady Bulldogs.

For the Lady Vikings, JoLee Dobbs had 23 assists, 12 digs and three kills in the match. Miranda Bruce had eight kills and eight blocks, Erin Kennedy had nine digs and six kills, Jessica Woodley added nine digs, four kills and four assists and Sidney Cooper had 12 digs, six kills and five blocks.

Against Addison, Dobbs had 17 assists, Bruce had nine kills and four blocks, Cooper had eight digs, six blocks and five kills, Woodley added eight digs and four kills and Kennedy had six digs and three kills.

Walker (10-5) plays in a tournament at Thompson on Saturday.



Cordova sweeps pair of matches

Cordova’s volleyball team pushed its record to 14-5 with a pair of home wins on Thursday.

The Lady Blue Devils opened with a straight-set victory over Winfield (25-11, 25-14, 25-19). The match was the area opener for both teams. In the match, Faith Sims had 18 kills, Sydnie Hitchcock had 15 kills, Emily Watson added 18 assists and nine digs and Tiffany Colburn had 15 assists.

Cordova (1-0 in area play) followed with a 25-11, 25-9 win over Shades Mountain Christian. Hitchcock had 10 kills, Sims added eight kills and Colburn had 19 assists.

Cordova plays an area match at Winfield beginning at 4:30 p.m. Monday with the junior varsity match. The Lady Devils return home Tuesday against Hamilton.

The Cordova volleyball team took second in the Corner Invitational Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Blue Devils won their first three matches before falling to Arab in the championship.

In the final match, Arab earned a 20-25, 25-17, 17-15 win.

For Cordova, Sydnie Hitchcock had 11 kills, Tiffany Colburn added nine assists, StevieLyn Drummond had eight kills, Faith Sims had five kills and Emily Watson contributed 11 assists and 10 digs.

Cordova opened with a 25-19, 25-13 win over Hueytown. Faith Sims had 11 kills and Sydnie Hitchcock added eight kills in the match.

The Lady Blue Devils followed with a 25-4, 25-20 win over Dora. Drummond and Sims each had eight kills. Cordova advanced to the championship match with a 25-13, 25-13 win over Corner.

In the match, Colburn had 12 assists, Sims had eight kills and Watson had nine digs and eight assists.



Dora splits tri-match

Dora played a pair of four-set area matches at Carbon Hill on Thursday, losing to the host team and knocking off Corner.

Carbon Hill defeated Dora in the opener (25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20).

For Dora, Alexia Smith had 13 kills and five blocks, Jordan Reese had five kills, Lydia Sanders added 21 digs, Lindsey Johnson had 13 digs and Hannah Wilson had 23 assists.

Dora earned a win over Corner in the second match (25-20, 20-25, 25-15, 29-27). Smith led the way with 20 kills, Reese had eight kills, Shelicia Meadows had 20 digs, Sanders contributed 15 digs, Hannah Wilson added 25 assists and Jill Thurman had two blocks.

Dora (6-9, 1-1) plays at a tournament in Oak Grove on Saturday.



Walker JV splits

Walker’s JV team won its opener over McAdory and lost to Addison at Songer gym on Thursday.

The Lady Vikings won the first match, 25-20, 25-15. For Walker, Riley Speegle had 14 assists and nine aces, Bonnie Sanders had six kills, two digs and two aces, Marlee Kimbrell had three aces, Justice Page had three kills and three aces, Sarah McMillan added four kills and Azha Allen had three aces.

Addison knocked off Walker 25-10, 25-14. Lauren Stewart had six digs, McMillan had two blocks and two kills, Allen had four digs and an ace, Mary Kate Harrell had five kills and a block while Sanders added four digs and two aces.

Walker’s JV team plays at the Wildcat Invitational at Guntersville on Saturday.
