Police Chief Nick Smith said his department recently received a tip that Simon was selling crack cocaine. He was picked up through an undercover drug operation set up by Smith and officer Tony Reid.
Simon is being held on a $30,000 cash bond at the Walker County Jail.
Smith said the arrest was significant because Simon is a member of the Walker County Drug Court and could face prison time for this repeat offense.
“His name has floated out in the community as being one of our top- to mid-level dealers,” Smith said.
The felony drug case is a first for Reid, the youngest member of the Cordova Police Department.
Reid, 21, graduated from the Alabama Police Academy in November and worked with Smith at the Parrish Police Department before both relocated to Cordova.
“He did a good job following everything through on his paperwork and helping us get somebody that I feel needed to be off the street,” Smith said.
Earlier this year, Smith announced a “zero tolerance” campaign that kicked off with five drug-related arrests in April.
