“Once again, we are looking forward to a very successful event in which these students will have the opportunity to explore the ‘world of work’ through a job shadow experience with local business and career fair activities at the Community Health Systems Activities Center,” Chamber President Linda Lewis said.
To make the event successful for the 885 students, more than 44 teachers, 22 bus drivers, 11 counselors, 41 Junior Ambassadors and many local leaders will assist in the organization, planning and transportation for the students.
“This year will truly be a challenging year, shadowing over 800 students countywide, but we see the benefits of shadowing, giving students choices for their future,” Lewis said.
Shadowing locations will include almost every department of Bevill State Community College, the City of Jasper, Walker Baptist Medical Center, local banks, law enforcement agencies, churches, veterinarians, nursing homes and other businesses and organizations.
“Groundhog Job Shadow Day demonstrates the connection between academics and careers, exciting students to learn by making their classwork more relevant, builds community partnerships between schools and businesses that enhance the educational experience of all students, and introduces students to the requirements of professions and industries to help them prepare to join the workforce,” Lewis said.
