Arleen Kitchens, 89, of Jasper, formerly of Parrish, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Ridgeview Health Services, where she received excellent care.

Funeral services will held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gray’s Cemetery at Odom Memorial Church near Parrish. Elder Charles H. Kitchens and Elder Tom Blair will preach the funeral.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, and from noon until 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby; daughter, Darlene; husband, Furn; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Auston Smith; brothers, Champ, Roland, W.A. and Percy Smith; and dear sister, Lucille Allums.

She is survived by her son, Jerry; brother, Ray Smith; sister, Kathleen (Kitty) Key; sisters-in-law, Anne Smith Hunt, Lillian, Bobby Jean and Opal Smith, Hazel Kitchens and Mary Gardner; daughter-in-law, Mischiline Kitchens; brothers-in-law, J.D. Allums, Eddie Key and Charles Kitchens; and many very special nieces and nephews.

As well as being a wife and mother, she was active in community affairs. She was chairman of the Walker County Cleanup Campaign; a member of Walker County Cowbelles and the Alabama Farmers Federation for many years and served on numerous committees of each. She was employed by The Singer Company for 17 years, and she was a member of Zion Rest Primitive Baptist Church in Jasper from the time of her marriage in 1942 until her death.

She was loved and will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
