Betty June Chance-Holcomb, daughter of John Henry Chance and Mary Evelyn Waldrop, born in West Jefferson County September, 23, 1932, passed away at her Chelsea, Alabama home on September 5, 2012.

Survived by her husband of 59 years, Colonel Rowland Holcomb; her children, Stephen, David, Denise, and Charlie; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was a graduate of Saint Vincent’s Nursing School in 1953 and served as a surgical nurse at Druid City Hospital and Children's Hospital until 1958.

She supported her family and husband throughout our country's missions to Korea and Vietnam, including seven years in Germany, and remained a shining light of encouragement and love to her husband, children and grandchildren throughout the rest of her days.

She enjoyed bird watching, cooking delicious meals, and attending services at Morning Star United Methodist Church in Chelsea, Ala.

A graveside service will be held at Free Will Cemetery in west Jefferson County on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. There will be no public viewing. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home directing.
