Opening statements were made Wednesday in the trial of a Carbon Hill man accused of sexually abusing a child.

Ricky Robinson is charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12. Robinson’s age was not available.

Reports say Robinson is a former pastor at a church in Carbon Hill.

Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair said Wednesday afternoon that jury selection began Monday, and opening statements were made Wednesday in a trial that’s expected to last about a week.

The victim of the crime was a girl who was between 6 and 10 years old.

“This is a particularly difficult case and very emotional for everyone,” Adair said.

Witness testimony is slated to begin at 9 a.m. today.

Assistant District Attorneys Chris Sherer and Alonna Sewell are prosecuting the case.

Robinson is represented by Jasper attorney Herbie Brewer.
