Carbon Hill had big leads in both games, but let them slip away before bouncing back for victories.
Though there will be no champion in this year’s tournament — due to rainouts last Saturday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday — Cordova could finish as the only undefeated team with wins over Dora and Carbon Hill today.
There will be a total of four games at Cordova today: Dora vs. Cordova at 10 a.m., Parrish vs. Dora at 12:30 p.m., Curry vs. Oakman at 3 p.m. and Cordova vs. Carbon Hill at 5:30 p.m.
Against Dora, Carbon Hill built a 6-0 lead through five innings. Dora rallied for seven runs in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead. Dora led 8-7 going into the final inning.
In the seventh, Carbon Hill pushed across two runs to earn the win. Dylan Sargent scored on a wild pitch to tie the game and Quinton McCarty drove in the game-winning run with a bases loaded single that scored Jordan Dawsey.
Blaine Eads started the game on the mound and struck out 11 batters in five innings, but go a no decision. Houston Harbin (4-0) pitched the final inning and got the win.
McCarty finished 3-for-4 with an RBI for Carbon Hill (9-4) while Tylor Owens had a single and a stolen base, Sargent had a single, two stolen bases and scored three runs and Dawsey had two RBIs.
Dora’s Dalton Bahrick had two triples. Jordan Criswell took the loss on the mound.
In Saturday’s opener, Carbon Hill knocked off Oakman 6-4. The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead only to have the Wildcats tie the game at 4-4. Carbon Hill struck for two runs in the fifth and held on for the win. Owens singled and scored on a McCarty single for a 5-4 lead. McCarty scored on a wild pitch for the final run.
Weston Bonner got the win, allowing just four hits and striking out four in seven innings. Conner Young finished with a single, two walks, four stolen bases, one run and an RBI. Bonner added a double.
For Oakman, Donnie Ruth was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Micah Franklin was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, Case Key had a double, a run and an RBI, Da’Paul Bevelle was 1-for-3 with a double and a run and Aaron Key was 1-for-3 with a run.
Hunter Wade took the loss, allowing one earned run in the three innings.
Cordova 10, Curry 2
Chris Kilpatrick struck out 13 and allowed just four hits in seven innings as the Blue Devils earned a 10-2 win over Curry in their Walker County Tournament game on Friday.
At the plate, Andrew Minor was 3-for-4 with a run, Stephen Kilpatrick was 2-for-3 and Dustin Sanders was 2-for-4.
With the win, Cordova improved to 4-0 in the tournament. Curry won its opener on Saturday, beating Parrish.
Oakman 12, Parrish 1, six innings
Oakman knocked off Parrish 12-1 in six innings in its opener on Friday.
Bart Clement tossed a no-hitter on the mound, striking out five and allowing no hits or walks. Parrish scored its lone run on an error.
Offensively, Micah Franklin was 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs and two RBIs, Clement finished 3-for-4 with two runs, Donnie Ruth was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, Hunter Wade was 1-for-4 with two runs, Da’Paul Bevelle was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs and both Riley Williams and Case Key had hits.
