The annual East Walker Chamber of Commerce 5K and one-mile fun run is set for Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 a.m. The course this year will start and end at Dora Municipal Park on Sharon Boulevard.

Organizers said the participation for the event fell short last year, so they returned to sharing a date with the city of Sumiton’s annual Frog Festival, as they did the first year. Organizers are hoping residents will come run the race before heading to the festival.

This year’s course is described at fairly flat, with slight inclines and declines throughout the course. There will be aid and water stations at the 2-mile marker and near the end of the course.

Participants can pre-register at or contact one of the numbers or email address for a registration form. The cost for the run (including participant t-shirt) is $25 for those who pre-register by Sept. 30. After that date and on the day of the event, the fee will be $30. The fee for the fun run will be $15.

Chamber members will take last-minute registrations on the day of the race from 6 to 6:45 a.m.

The chamber is still looking for sponsors as well as runners. Anyone interested in sponsoring the run can contact Executive Director Chee-Vee Whitfield at the chamber at or call 612-4578 or 255-0202. Registration forms can be mailed, with the fee, to the East Walker Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 188, Sumiton, AL 35148.

Registration fee must accompany the registration form.
