The skull was found at a residence from which two women, 104-year-old Mary Cobb, and her 83-year-old daughter, Wynona Delvecchio, were reported missing in 2005. The skull was found after the current renter of the home went into the crawl space to check on his air-conditioning system.
Scientists with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery conducted the examination of the remains.
Rowe said detectives on the scene of Sunday’s discovery said evidence found in 2005 suggested that the two women were no longer residing in Walker County but may be living in West Virginia.
