Sumiton Church of God is among a select group of churches across the country to offer a pre-showing of the faith-based movie ‘I Am.’

The movie, based on a modern-day account of how the characters disobey God and by attempting to fix their lives by themselves, only fall deeper into chaos, pain and loss.

Sarah Glover is the leader of Connection, the church’s young adults class. She said the movie idea was brought to her, and she was happy to give the church an opportunity to show it.

“We are vary pleased with the movie, and feel like it will help our church be an outreach to the community,” she said.

The first thought was to show the movie only to her class, but after thinking about the benefits of giving others the opportunity, she opened it to anyone who would like to come.

“This movie gives us a chance to shine a light into the community, and we wanted to involve anyone who wants to come,” Glover added.

The movie will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church, and will be shown on a large movie screen.

“A lot of people are not aware of how much they break the rules given to us in the Ten Commandments,” Glover said. “It’s like they are slowly drifting away.

“This movie puts it in a good perspective for people now.”

Earlier in the month, Cornerston Assembly of God in Jasper held a pre-showing, and a representative from the church said they were pleased with the response.

Glover agreed on the evaluation of the movie.

“It’s a very good movie,” she said.
