Clyde “Decil” Guthrie, 81, of Carbon Hill and Jasper, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013. He was a devoted Christian and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired employee of the American Bridge Division of U.S. Steel in Gary, Ind. He loved gardening, lawn work and repairing just about anything.

In his later years, every Saturday night he especially loved to watch his favorite gospel and bluegrass music shows. He was a kidney dialysis patient at the DaVita Clinic in Jasper.

Visitation will be today, Aug. 28, 2013, (by coincidence this was Decil and Shirley’s wedding anniversary date) from noon until 2 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Funeral Home Chapel. Tyler Keene will officiate. Burial will be in the Scott Cemetery in Carbon Hill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Millie Guthrie (Townley); in-laws, Virgil and Irene Kilgore (Carbon Hill); his loving wife, Shirley Kathleen Kilgore (2004); sisters, Agnes NeSmith (2006), Angelia “Polly” Pike (2011); brother, Charles “Doodle” Guthrie (2009); and brothers- and sisters-in-law, William Jenkins (1995), Mary Merrell (2012), Floyd Kilgore (2011), Jerry Kilgore (2002), and Phillip Fannin (2011) .

Survivors include his children, David and Debbie Guthrie (Demotte, Ind.), Doug and Rhonda Guthrie (Portage, Ind.), Ken and Penny Pope (Jasper); grandchildren, Courtnie Melton (Portage, Ind.), Kevin Guthrie and Nicole Stout (Demotte, Ind.), Robbie Guthrie and Melissa Griffin (Demotte, Ind.), and Dougie Guthrie (Portage, Ind.); four great-grandchildren, Emily Stout, Mathew Stout, Nickolas Guthrie and Evelyn Guthrie; brothers, Oliver “Dick” Guthrie (Townley), William “Skeet” and Mable Guthrie (Townley), Preston “Junior” Guthrie (Chesterton, Ind.); sister, Lorene Jenkins (Carbon Hill); brothers- and sisters-in-law, J.W. Pike (Carbon Hill), Wilton Merrell (Calera), JoNell Kilgore (Merrillville, Ind.), Joebilly and Gail Kilgore (Kansas, Ala.), Mary Lou Kilgore (Carbon Hill), Don and Gail Maddox (Pleasant Grove), and Virgie Fannin (Hebron, Ind.); and many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

He will be deeply missed by those who have known him.
