Cordova wins big on Senior Night

CORDOVA — Cordova has momentum heading into the area tournament.

The Blue Devils’ volleyball team took care of Parrish in straight sets on Senior Night at Cordova High School on Thursday.

Cordova is now 5-2 in its last seven matches with both losses coming to Hatton, the No. 4 team in Class 2A.

Sydnie Hitchcock and Tiffany Colburn are seniors on this year’s team.

Cordova (34-18) defeated Parrish 25-10, 25-3, 25-12. For the Blue Devils, Faith Sims led the team with 16 kills, Hitchcock had nine kills and five aces, Colburn added 16 assists, Stevi Lyn Drummond had five kills and five aces and Emily Wilson had 13 assists.

Cordova’s next match comes against Winfield in the Class 3A, Area 14 Tournament at Winston County on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets open the tournament against Hamilton at 4 p.m. with the Cordova-Winfield match set for 6 p.m.



Oakman edges Berry

Oakman closed out its regular season with its fifth straight win, a hard-fought, home victory over Berry on Thursday.

Oakman won the match 26-24, 25-21, 27-29, 25-19.

For the Wildcats, Taylor Pendley had 15 kills, Lindsey Harbison added six kills, four digs and a pair of aces, Hannah Bonner had eight kills, two digs and two aces, Mallory Nunnelley had 14 digs, one ace and one kill, Brianna Aldridge had eight kills and a block, Jordan Harbison had 30 assists, five kills and two aces, Caroline Thompson had seven kills, two digs and a block while Khaley Smith had one kill and one ace.

Oakman plays in the 2A, Area 11 Tournament at Cold Springs on Thursday.



Walker wins pair

Walker closed out their regular season, beating both Lynn and Hayden at Songer Gym on Thursday.

Jessica Woodley and Hannah Peppers are seniors on the team.

The Vikings knocked off Lynn — the No. 3 team in Class 1A — 25-23, 25-20, to open the day.

Against the Bears, Miranda Bruce led the team with 12 kills and two digs, Sidney Cooper had seven kills and two digs, JoLee Dobbs had 21 assists and one ace, Jessica Woodley added five kills and three digs and Anna Claire Harris had four kills and two digs.

Walker closed with a rout of Hayden, in a 5A, Area 12 match, beating the Wildcats 25-7, 25-10, 25-10.

Walker (25-13) plays in the Margaret Blalock Tournament at Homewood tomorrow and Saturday.

The Vikings play in the area tournament at Curry on Thursday.
