Council votes to buy new computer, software for city clerk’s office

DORA — The Dora City Council voted Tuesday night to purchase a new computer and new software for the city clerk’s office.

City Clerk Cindy Vines asked the council to approve the upgrades to the bookkeeping systems in her office and at the city’s golf course. She also asked that the council pay for training on the new systems.

The council also voted to purchase a new computer system for the clerk's office because the current system is aging and will not efficiently run the new software.

In other business:

•The council voted to amend the rental agreement for the city's civic center after problems arose with past rentals. Anyone renting the civic center after 7 p.m. must also pay to have an off-duty police officer at the location.

The officer hired must be approved by the Dora police chief.

Also, the center will close at 11 p.m. and all renters must have wrapped up their usage at that time.

•The council tabled a discussion about purchasing a trailer for the street department in order to look into the options further.

•The council heard from resident Jessica Motte who was asking the council to partner with her and allow her use of the civic center to host a Christmas Festival. Her idea was that local businesses could rent booth space and showcase and sell their wares before Christmas. Most council members voiced support for the idea but asked for more information and details before moving forward.

•Mayor Chris Edwards updated the council on the progress of the city's Fall Festival that will be held at Dora Park on Oct. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The planning committee meets Monday's at 10 a.m., and they are still looking for volunteers to help plan the event.
