Curry girls top Lynn in ranked battle

CURRY — Curry got revenge against Lynn Monday night.

After losing to the Bears in the championship game of the Cordova Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, Curry bounced back with a narrow three-set win over Lynn at Curry High School, earning a 25-22, 23-25, 15-11 victory. The Yellow Jackets opened the day with a 25-13, 25-11 win over Dora. Curry, ranked No. 5 in Class 5A, improved to 34-7 on the season.

Lynn (20-9), the No. 3 team in Class 1A, split matches on the day, beating Dora 25-16, 25-23, and losing to Curry in the finale.

Against Lynn, Jessie Bagwell had nine digs and 30 assists while Josie Walker had six kills and two aces,

Bretta Lane had 10 kills, MaryBeth Scott had five digs, three kills and one assist, Chloe Bennett had 10 kills and two digs, Holli McGinnis had 13 digs and an ace, Gabby Englebert had three digs, three kills and one ace, Jordan McPherson had five digs, Kendall Chance had six digs and one kill and Payton Norris had 17 digs. In the win over Dora, Bagwell had 26 assists, four aces and one digs, Walker had one dig, three kills and two aces. Lane had seven kills, Scott had eight kills and two digs, Bennett had four kills, McGinnis had 13 digs and one ace, Englebert had two digs, two aces and one kill, McPherson had four digs, Chance had six digs and Norris had three digs and an ace.



Dora loses pair

Dora fell to both Curry and Lynn on Monday.

Against Curry, Alexia Smith had three kills and two blocks, Lydia Sanders had 10 digs, Hannah Wilson added seven assists, two kills and two digs, Madisen Bencko had two kills, two digs and an ace, Lindsey Johnson had five digs and a kill while Shelicia Meadows had six digs.

In the loss to Lynn, Smith had eight kills, three digs and four aces, Wilson had 12 assists, two kills and two digs, Sanders had nine digs, Bencko had eight digs and a kill, Johnson had seven digs and Meadows had six digs.

Curry plays in the Spain Park Invitational on Saturday.
