Don Ray Woodson, 68, of Jasper, passed away on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at his residence. Don was a good friend and much loved staff member at Camp McDowell. He was a very talented writer of poetry, music and short stories. Don was a bright and fun loving man. At Camp McDowell he was known as the “camp piddler” because he repaired all things broken. When Don liked you, you were described as a “rare and precious flower.”

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today, Sept. 30, 2012, at Camp McDowell’s Chapel of St. Francis. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper. The Rev. Mark Johnston will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Thelma Woodson. sisters, Nell Hurst, Jean Harrison and Joy Wilson; and brother, William Wilson.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Woodson; daughters, Michelle Lay and husband, Paul, and Christi Long and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Micah, Patrick, Justin, Jamin, Sarah, Allie and Emilee; sister, Betty Kimbrell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family requests donations be made to Camp McDowell in lieu of flowers.
