Don’s major life’s work was in the auto body industry. He was a first-class painter and good body repairman. He had been disabled for the past few years due to cancer and other ailments.
Don loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and water sports, aswell as horseshoes, dominoes, board games, darts and spendingtime with his four-legged companions. He had a good sense of humor and loved to tease and play pranks. He always had a smile for friends and family and was quick to make friends.
He made his mistakes just like the rest of us, but he loved the Lord and read his Bible and prayed regularly even though he didn’t attend church often.
Don was preceeded in death by his grandparents, Mack and Leone Hurst and Alvy and Flora Alexander, and step-grandmother, Velma Alexander; one brother, Steve Hurst; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Stevens (Mike); granddaughter, Maillee Stevens; mother, Louise Alexander Hurst; father, Joe Hurst; brother, Jim Hurst; sisters, Pat Hummel (Greg), Debra Potter (Ron), and Sarah Horn (Brian); uncles,
Sid Hurst, D.W. Alexander (Linda), and Jessie Alexander (Michelin); aunt, Betty Sanders; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Bro. Hancel Cox and Pastor David Miller of Edgil Grove Baptist Church will officiate.
There will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be Jim Hurst, Greg Hummel, Brian Horn and Louie Maczo.
