Dora boys capture 9th-grade championship

CORDOVA — The Dora Bulldogs won the ninth grade boys Walker County Tournament Championship on Thursday night, beating the Carbon Hill Bulldogs, 57-47 at Cordova.

Davien Freeman led Dora with 26 points, while Andrew Busby and Spencer Johnson led Carbon Hill with eight points each.


Junior Varsity Boys

Dora 55, Carbon Hill 50

The Dora Bulldogs junior varsity boys locked up one of the two spots for Saturday’s title game following a 55-50 win over the Carbon Hill Bulldogs on Thursday.

Alex Russell topped the Dora scoring effort with 23 points, while Bret Atkins scored 13 to lead Carbon Hill. Dora plays Oakman for the championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.


Oakman 41, Cordova 35

The Oakman Wildcats clinched the JV championship game’s second spot thanks to a 41-35 victory over the Cordova Blue Devils on Thursday. Collin Woods led Oakman with 23 points, while Jacob Hendrix had 14 points to lead Cordova.


Junior Varsity Girls

Curry 36, Oakman 21

The Curry Yellow Jackets advanced to Saturday’s JV Girls Championship Game after a 36-21 win over the Oakman Wildcats on Thursday.

Katie Downs scored 13 points to lead the Yellow Jackets, while Kylie Bolton had 16 points for the Wildcats. Curry meets the Dora Bulldogs for the title at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
