The possible sale of surplus vehicles owned by the city, a custom-built council table to replace the current folding tables and an expanded Verizon Wireless air card contract were all postponed to give the new council a chance to decide on the options. The new administration will take office on Nov. 5, with new mayor Randy Stephens at the helm.
Police Chief John Duchock was asked to get a bid on the surplus police cars, which are older model Crown Victorias, from the City of Hanceville. Hanceville had expressed an interest in using the vehicles for replacement parts for their current police cars.
In other business:
•The council did renew the three existing air card contracts with Verizon, but the police department and golf course had asked for an additional four units.
•City Clerk Cindy Vines asked the city to discontinue the Delta Software contract that would have renewed on Nov. 1. Vines said the software is very expensive to maintain, and it is unnecessary for printing business licenses because of the city’s upgraded accounting software.
•The council voted to create a part-time office assistant position for city hall. Previously a part-time dispatcher had been used in that capacity.
The position is expected to work approximately 25 hours per week.
•The council also entered an executive session that was continued Wednesday night regarding an employee of the city. No public information was released identifying the employee.
