Funeral services for Earl “Mossie” Melton Jr., 79, of Cullman, will be held today, Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at noon in the Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel in Hanceville with Dale McAnnally officiating.

The family will receive friends today, Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, from 11 a.m. until noon at Hanceville Funeral Home.

Graveside services with military honors will be held today, Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Walker Memory Gardens.

Melton passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

He was a member of the Cordova High School Class of 1952, who met as a group monthly. He retired as a detective sergeant after more than 20 years of service with the Birmingham Police Department. After retirement, he worked as a security guard at Carraway Hospital. He also served in the United States Marines.

Melton was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Earl and Keterina Morris Melton; his wife, Jan Melton; and a brother, Eddie Melton.

He is survived by three children, Sandy (Joel) Brant, Terry Earl (Susan) Melton and Jennifer (Roger) Hall; grandchildren, Kimberly Byess, Jody Brant, Mandy Nuss, Jared Brant, Nathan Earl Melton, Lauren Henderson, Shana Roberts and Ty Lipsey; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Byess, Richard Byess, Parker Brant, Colton Roberts, Tucker Brant, Hutch Brant, Eric Nuss, Patrick Nuss and Kevin Nuss; brothers, Jimmy Shubert and Rickey Melton; and sisters, Darlene Jackson and Terri Noble.
