Eight area volleyball teams still alive at super-regionals

Eight area high school volleyball teams are one win away from a berth in the state tournament following super-regional victories on Friday.

Walker, Addison, Carbon Hill, Cordova, Dora, Lynn, Meek and Winston County all won their opening matches. Each team needs to win their first match on Saturday to keep their seasons going.

The top four teams in each classification earn a spot in next week's Elite Eight state tournament.

At Huntsville, Walker won its opening match in Class 5A, defeating East Limestone 25-9, 25-21, 25-21. The No. 7-ranked Vikings face third-ranked Muscle Shoals with the season on the line.

Top-ranked Addison breezed through its opening match, knocking off Waterloo 25-9, 25-9, 25-2. The Bulldogs face Tharptown today.

Meek won its opener over Covenant Christian, 25-17, 25-16, 25-12. The Tigers take on Ragland today.

Lynn defeated Cedar Bluff 25-14, 25-6, 8-25, 25-10. The Bears open today against Athens Bible.

In Class 3A, both Winston County and Cordova won their opening matches.

Winston County routed Glencoe, 25-15, 25-8, 25-10 while Cordova knocked off Ashville, 25-14, 25-20, 24-26, 25-22.

Winston County faces Good Hope today while Cordova plays Danville.

At Montgomery, both Carbon Hill and Dora advanced.

Carbon Hill topped Ashford 25-8, 25-6, 25-15. The Bulldogs play No. 2 St. James today.

Dora defeated Headland, 25-11, 25-13, 25-11. Dora plays Calera in today's opener.

Oakman was the only area team to be eliminated on Friday. The Wildcats were put out by Colbert Heights, 25-10, 25-16, 25-13.
