Fontaine Trailer Company, the world’s largest flatbed trailer manufacturer, announced Friday it will invest more than $5 million in new business opportunities and expansions at its Jasper campus.

Fontaine, which is headquartered in Jasper, has established two new businesses, Fontaine Intermodal and Fontaine Renew. Both will be located in Jasper.

As a part of the expansion project, Fontaine is also growing its parts and service organization, PartSource, and its research and development capabilities.

The expansions have already created about 50 jobs, which have been filled, and will create as many as 150 more jobs over the next several months, said John Craig, group president of Marmon Highway Technologies, Fontaine’s parent company.

“Our local management team is excited about the opportunities we see for the future of Fontaine here in Jasper,” Craig said.

Fontaine recently purchased warehouse facilities inside the Tom Bevill Industrial Park in Jasper to house the expansions. Renovations on those facilities have already started.

Gov. Robert Bentley said the expansion is a compliment to the hard workers of Walker County. “Alabama has a strong workforce,” Bentley said. “We have a business-friendly climate, and we’re committed to helping companies expand. I want to thank the leaders of Fontaine, the elected leaders from Walker County, our economic developers, and all others who worked together to make this expansion possible.

“Job creations remains my No. 1 priority, and Fontaine’s expansion will mean more new jobs and more new opportunities for the people of this area,” Bentley added.

Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said Fontaine’s plans are a perfect match for the state’s “Accelerate Alabama” economic development plan.

“We are pleased that the company continues to grow and hire additional Alabamians,” Canfield said. “We will be here to help Fontaine as it navigates new markets and establishes new product lines.”

Sen. Greg Reed (R-Jasper) congratulated Fontaine on its expansion.

“Fontaine has been an excellent corporate citizen in Jasper,” Reed said. “This expansion shows their business is growing, and they obviously feel they have a great relationship with Walker County and Jasper.”

Rep. Bill Roberts said the Fontaine announcement and the recent expansion announcement by automobile supplier Amtex shows Walker County is “open for business.”

“Both of these announcements show that good things are happening in Jasper and throughout Walker County,” Roberts said.

Mayor Sonny Posey said the announcement is great news for Jasper.

“Fontaine was an outstanding addition to Jasper when they first located here in 2005,” Posey said. “This company has done a tremendous job, and we’re proud they are growing and have chosen to expand their facilities here in our city.”

Bruce Hamrick, Chairman of the Walker County Commission, said the quality jobs offered by Fontaine are a welcome addition to the area.

“On behalf of the Walker County Commission, I want to thank Fontaine Trailer for their continued investment in our community,” he said. “Fontaine is a great company that provides quality jobs for the residents of Walker County.”
