SUMITON — Sumiton Christian dropped its third straight game, falling short in a tough region loss to Falkville, 34-13 on Friday.

The Blue Devils put the game out of reach with a 20-point second half.

Sumiton Christian got on the board first on a 22 yard field goal by Trey Collins. It was set up by a Falkville fumble after Nick Norris knocked the ball loose. It was recovered by Brad Seale.

The Eagles’ defense stopped the Blue Devils again and on fourth down a bad snap ended up in the end zone recovered by Falkville giving Sumiton a safety for a 5-0 lead.

After Falkville's kickoff, Sumiton Christian drove the ball down to the Blue Devil 33 yard line. On first down, quarterback Austin Clark was picked off by Devin Reed.

On the very next play, Marcus Woodall ran past the Eagle defense for a 96-yard touchdown run to put his team up 7-5 after Ryan Sullivan kicked the extra point.

But the Eagles would come right back. A pass from Clark to freshman Josh Yates for 22 yards and a first down put the Eagles in business. With 3:41 left until halftime, Nathan Godwin ran it in from 8 yards out and also ran the 2-point conversion to put Sumiton Christian on top 13-7.

Falkville had a surprise left before halftime though; on fourth down with 1:48 left and Sullivan back to punt, he found James Johnson open for a 59-yard pass play and a 14-13 halftime lead after Sullivan booted the PAT.

The two teams traded blows in the third quarter with Sumiton Christian’s Yates leading the Eagles defense and Eddie Knowles leading Falkville.

But it was the ground game, led by another long 90-yard TD run by Woodall, that would decide this game.

Sullivan ran one in from a yard out to put the Blue Devils out front 21-13. Less than 3 minutes later, Aaron Estis ran in another from 12 yards to make it 27-13 after Joseph Thompson blocked the extra point try.

Woodall capped the scoring with his second long run of the night. He finished with 236 yards rushing on 10 carries and two touchdowns.

The Eagles air attack found Tyler Busby 6 times for 55 yards but could not get into the end zone.

The Eagles are off next week.
