The event is sponsored by the Walker County Fibromyalgia Support Group. Registration opens at 10:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 11.
“This is a way we can bring awareness of fibromyalgia to the community,” said Anita Mauldin, an organizer of the walk. “It’s also a fun day for us who suffer with the disease to be together.”
Eleanor Herald, another organizer, said the group will have free information packets about fibromyalgia available at the walk.
“Anyone who has been newly diagnosed or family members who need more information are more than welcome to come by,” she said.
The walk is free, but the group will have T-shirts available for $10 each. Mauldin said sponsors of the event included the Daily Mountain Eagle, G May & Sons, La Ti Da Salon, English Plaza Pharmacy, Linda Burns, Lawson Real Estate, Magic Mirror Salon, Nelson, Bryan and Jones, Professional Pharmacy, Son’s 9th Avenue and T-Shirt Land.
“We are just so thankful to our sponsors,” Mauldin said. “They support us and that means a lot.”
The Fibromyalgia Support Group of Walker County meets the third Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the CHS building. Mauldin said loved ones of those living with fibromyalgia and those seeking information about the disorder are also welcome at the meetings.
