The Walker County Community Action Agency, Inc., has obtained a limited number of new notebook computers which will be given away to high school seniors living in Walker County who qualify for the program.

Nearly 900 applications with instructions for applying for these free notebooks were distributed by the agency to the seven high schools servicing Walker County recently.

Applications turned in after Wednesday will not be considered.

The funding source for these notebook computers require that they be given to students from low-income households. Client households which have received assistance in the past through the Walker Community Action Agency will most likely qualify for this program also, but each applying household’s current status must be evaluated. In order to see if a student qualifies for the notebook, the following information is required:

•Student Information Form submitted (fully completed) by the student.

•A parent or guardian come to the agency to complete application intake on Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30p.m.

•Social Security cards for everyone in the househould.

•Proof of income (or proof of “zero income”) for all household members age 18 or over for the month of August 2010.

All applications received will be reviewed and the most qualified students will be chosen based on the information provided at intake.

Selected students will be contacted to come to the agency to pick up their notebook as soon as possible.
