The typically busy Raceway gas station in Jasper sat empty Tuesday morning, its gas pumps blocked by yellow caution tape and its store completely empty of any merchandise.

While the store has closed, an official with Raceway said it will only be for a short time.

“The Jasper Raceway is not shutting down permanently,” said Latasha Acoff, regional manager. “This is a really good location and Raceway loves being in Jasper. We are here to stay.”

Acoff said the business is going through an owner/management change.

“It will continue to be Raceway and continue to offer everything area customers expect from us,” she said.

The store was open Monday, but Acoff, who was in Jasper Tuesday, said the closing took place quickly Monday evening. She couldn’t provide any other specifics about the ownership change.

“I’ve been at the store some today and have spoken to several customers who have driven by to see why the station was closed,” she said. “While I am here, I’m going to get some signage to let people know that we will be opening again soon.”

Acoff said she expected the new owner to be in place and the store to reopen within a month.

“The Jasper Raceway should be open in about three weeks,” she said. “I don’t think it should take any longer than that.”
