Gayle Samson “Phil” Phillips, 89, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Cordova Health and Rehabilitation.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from noon until 2 p.m. in the parlor at Collins-Burke Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Mark Thompson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery in Bremen.

Phil was an aircraft mechanic and retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Samuel Phillips; mother, Bertha McCoy Phillips; sister, Ellen Payne; and brothers, Talmage Phillips, Howard Phillips and Arley Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel Howton Phillips of Jasper; daughters, Sandra McLaughlin (Dan) of Trussville, Susan Phillips (Jeff), Carlyon Quinn (Carvin) and Patricia Garrett; sons, Michael Phillips (Lesia) and Joshua Brom (Jessica); sister, Ruby Johnson; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
