She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Partrich of Tuscaloosa; her brothers, Penn Woods, John Woods, James Woods and Paul Woods, all of Jasper; her sisters, Florine Stough, Kathleen Busby and Mary McDowell; and four nephews.
Gladys is survived by one sister, Etha Brasfield of Gardendale; a devoted niece and nephew, Gladys and Simmes Bevill of Gardendale; two sisters-in-law, Louise Woods and Mildred Woods, both of Jasper.
Gladys is a graduate of Oakman High School and Livingston State College, currently the University of West Alabama. A dedicated elementary school teacher, she retired after 42 years of service with the Walker County and Tuscaloosa County School systems. Her professional experience included a position as an elementary school mentor for the University of Alabama. Gladys was a member of the Alabama Education Association, the Retired Teachers of Walker County and Alpha Kappa Delta teachers' sorority. Her strong belief in the value of higher education made Gladys instrumental in the choice of her siblings to pursue a college education.
The family would like to express a special thank you for the care provided by the extended family and staff at Covenant Place. A sincere appreciation is extended to Betty Davis, Gloria Mangrum, Sarah Todd and Tammy Dunnan for four years of loving care and dedication.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 2, 2012, at Gardendale Funeral Home from 10 until 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Conrad Howell officiating and remarks by Paul Roberts of Covenant Place. Interment will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park in Tuscaloosa at 3 p.m.
