I hope all of our readers have survived this crazy weather we have been experiencing lately.

I have really enjoyed some of the warmer temperatures we’ve had lately so much that I broke out my barbecue grill and was going do some grilling, but Old Man Winter quickly put a halt to that.

He reminded me that winter wasn’t over yet, and I would just have to wait a little longer on the barbecuing.

But then one of the local grocery stores made things easier for me when they put Boston butts on sale a few days ago.

I hurried to the store and purchased two of the biggest butts I could get my hands on.

There is nothing that smells better to me than a Boston butt simmering in a Crockpot. If you season it just right and let it cook real slow, not only does it smell really good, but it tastes really good too.

Anytime I cook a Boston butt in the Crockpot when the boys are around, you can find one of them standing over the pot taking a big whiff. I’ve often said if I could figure out a way to bottle that smell and sell it, I would because I would probably become an instant millionaire.

I filled my house with that wonderful smell the other day when I decided to cook both of the Boston butts I had bought.

I cooked one on Thursday a week ago when I decided to fix lunch for everyone at work and the other one this past Monday for mine and Cory’s “Castle Watching Night” supper.

The butt I fixed for the office lunch was seasoned with my special butt rub and barbecue sauce. I also fixed some baked beans and homemade coleslaw to go with it. This is by far one of my favorite meals.

The butt I cooked for mine and Cory’s supper, was seasoned with my special butt rub and then simmered slowly with some onions, carrots and potatoes. I fixed a salad to go with this meal and I “pigged” out.

Both meals were wonderful and everyone else seemed to enjoy them as well. I know they definitely helped me get out of the really bad winter funk I’ve gotten into lately.

But I still can’t wait to put some burgers and country style ribs on the bar-be as they say down under.

So, go away, Old Man Winter and bring on all those creepie crawling critters, Mother Nature. I’ll find a way to deal them. Just as long as it gets warmer so I can get my grill on before I go into complete barbecue withdrawal.
