Pastor Ben Godwin of Goodsprings Full Gospel Church recently released his second book, “A Practical Pattern for Prayer.”

“Prayer is one of the most important and probably the most neglected activity of the Christian and the church,” Godwin said. “My goal is to reignite people’s passion for praying. It’s something we all know we need to do, but somehow it falls through the cracks.”

The new book is a collection of several of Godwin’s sermons. Some of the topics include the importance of making prayer a priority, the proper pattern for prayer and 10 reasons for unanswered prayer.

Godwin said some people give up too soon even though Jesus taught that his followers should be persistent with their prayers.

Praying for the wrong things is another error that Godwin highlights.

“When we pray, we should be praying the will of God. The way to know the will of God is to be familiar with the word of God because His word is His will,” Godwin said.

Godwin added that sometimes prayers that fall within God’s will are not answered because it is not the correct timing.

Godwin said he has witnessed many answers to prayer in his lifetime, the most miraculous of which is the subject of his first book, “God’s Strategy for Tragedy.”

Godwin was struck by a car while riding a bicycle as a child and lost three inches of bone in his leg as a result of the accident.

He was told that he would have a limp for the rest of his life.

“I was in a prayer meeting at my pastor’s home. As a result of those prayers, bone was restored in my leg and I did not have to have bone graft surgery,” Godwin said.

Godwin’s books are available at Ken Glover Drug, Berean Bible Bookstore and Walker Baptist Medical Center’s gift shop as well as Jesus & Java in Sumiton.
