Harchel Lander Burkett, 88, of Carbon Hill, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, from noon until 3 p.m. in the parlor at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the Kilgore-Green Chapel. Burial will be in the Studdards Cross Roads Cemetery in Fayette County. The Rev. Ken Bishop will officiate.

Burkett was a Methodist minister for more than 35 years. He preached in several different churches in the surrounding areas. He enjoyed preaching and loved gospel singing during his illness. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with his son and his family when he was able. Harchel was a member of the Son Shine Singers. His hobbies were fishing with friends and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester Burkett and Mytle Anderson Burkett; brothers, Earl Burkett, Ellis Burkett and Leon Burkett; and sisters, Allene Gurthie and Mary Fay Burkett.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Campbell Burkett; son, Kenny Burkett (Denise); daughter, Linda Garris; grandchildren, Chad Burkett, Krista Garris and Kim LeGore (Gary); great-grandchildren, Garris LeGore and Colin LeGore; sisters, Opal Burton and Martha Burkett; brothers, John D. Burkett (Gerrelene) and O’Neal Burkett (Brownie); and a host of special nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pallbearers will be Mark Myers, Scott Ivey, Richard Baughn, Tim Baughn, Willie Baughn and Corey Baughn.
