High School softball: Lynn girls roll to tournament title

Lynn went a perfect 6-0 over two days to capture the Lynn Invitational Tournament title on Saturday.

The Bears outscored the competition 61-6 in the event, beating Tharptown 12-2 in the championship game.

On Friday, Lynn beat Berry (9-1) and Dora (2-1). The Bears followed with four wins on Saturday — defeating Brilliant (19-0), Berry (9-2) and Dora (10-0) before knocking off Tharptown.

In the title game, Tiffany Self got the win for Lynn. She struck out six batters.

Emma Easley had four hits in the game, Reagan Tittle added three hits, including a home run,  Brooklyn Beck had three hits and both Holly Murray and Brooke Harris had two hits.

In the semifinal win over Dora, Brooklyn Beck earned the victory, striking out seven batters. At the plate, Murray had three hits.

Lynn opened the day with a rout of Brilliant. Beck picked up the win, striking out eight batters. Tittle had four hits in the game, including a home run. Harris, Easley and Beck each had a pair of hits. The Bears followed with a victory over Berry while Mackenzie Tidwell getting the win, striking out five. Tittle and Self had three hits while both Murray and Kelci McGough hit home runs.

Lynn (6-0), which has now won the tournament two of the last three seasons under head coach Philip Smith, plsys a double-header at Walker on Monday.

Dora advances to semifinals at Lynn

Dora went 2-1 in the Lynn Invitational Tournament on Saturday, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament before being eliminated by eventual champion Lynn.

The Bulldogs earned wins over Brilliant (9-2) and Walker (7-2) before falling to Lynn (10-0).

Against Brilliant, seventh-grade pitcher Alea Freeman won the game, allowing one hit, one walk and one earned run while striking out four in three innings.

At the plate, Madison Hargrove was 3 for 3 with an RBI, Hannah Wilson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Lexi McLeroy was 2 for 2 with two RBIs.

In the victory over Walker, McLeroy got the win, giving up one earned run and striking out five in four innings.

Emily Owens was 1 for 2 with a home run for Dora (4-2). Kayla Watson was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Kelsey Rhodes was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Dora is scheduled to host Cordova on Monday.

Carbon Hill goes 1-1 in Lynn tournament

Carbon Hill won its opener 8-0 on Saturday at Lynn before dropping a 5-4 loss to Addison in its first game in the single-elimination portion of the tournament.

On the day, Kenna Alexander was 3 for 5 with a double, her first career home run, three runs and two RBIs, Tessa Ivey was 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs, Korey Tidwell was 2 for 5 with two runs, Abby Tittle was 2 for 4 with a stolen base and an RBI while Katie Moore, Jessica Hurst, Anna Grace Martin and Holli Gaddy each had hits and scored a run.

Ivey pitched both games, giving up five runs — one earned — on nine hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Carbon Hill (3-1), which won the Lynn Invitational last season, plays at Northside on Tuesday.
