East Point Pharmacy, located on Jones Dairy Road in Jasper, was the target of a burglary around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Jasper Police Chief Connie Cooner Rowe said JPD officers were dispatched to the scene at 1:16 a.m. and arrived at the pharmacy four minutes later.
No suspects were on the scene when police arrived, but video surveillance captured from the store has officers searching for a white male. During the burglary, the suspect was wearing a black knit cap and a black sweatshirt with a white cross on its back.
Rowe said the store suffered some damage during the burglary and an undetermined amount of pills were taken.
“We take pharmacy burglaries very seriously, because the drugs stolen wind up being sold to local consumers,” Rowe said.
East Point Pharmacy was also burglarized almost a year ago. During that incident, suspects cut the power to the business before the break-in. At that time, a handful of pharmacies were hit by burglars over a several week period. No arrests were made in those burglaries.
“We closely monitor all of our pharmacies — especially close after one gets hit,” Rowe said.
Anyone with information regarding Thursday’s break-in should contact the Jasper Police Department at 205-221-2121.
